ITERA Visits Biology FMIPA UNIB to Benchmark Curriculum and Establish Cooperation

Tuesday, 16th July 2024, Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) visited the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNIB to discuss curriculum benchmarking for the Biology Undergraduate Study Program as well as to explore opportunities for cooperation. The visited was led by Mrs. Winati Nurhayu, Coordinator of Biology Study Program of Faculty of Science ITERA, who was warmly welcomed by the Head of Biology Department and Coordinator of Biology Study Program of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNIB, as well as the lecturer staff.

The visit was held at the Department of FMIPA UNIB and began with presentations from both parties regarding the curriculum structure, the strengths of each study program, and the implementation strategy of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). In the discussion, the two institutions exchanged ideas to develop a competency-based curriculum that is relevant to industry needs, research, and the global challenge.

Another main topic of discussion in this meeting was sharing the experience of UNIB’s Biology Study Program in achieving ACQUIN international accreditation in 2023. This achievement is an inspiration for ITERA Biology Study Program which is preparing itself towards similar recognition at the international level. The Chairman of UNIB Biology Study Program conveyed key strategies which included adjusting the curriculum based on learning outcomes, strengthening research cooperation, and optimizing student involvement in academic and non-academic activities.

This visits concluded with the agreement signing as the first step to realize the agreed cooperation. The Cooperation Agreement was led directly by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation of FMIPA UNIB. Both parties hope that this synergy will not only be beneficial for improving the quality of education and research, but also making a real contribution to the development of science and environmental conservation at the national and international levels.
