Lecturer Exchange Program Highlights Microbial Physiology with Expert from Pakistan
Department of Biology at Universitas Bengkulu successfully hosted a two-day Lecturer Exchange program on Microbial Physiology, featuring expert insights from Dr. Namrah Anwar, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Punjab, Pakistan. This online academic collaboration was held via Zoom Meeting on May 7–8, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Organized under the theme of international academic collaboration, the program focused on two critical topics in microbial metabolism:
- Microbial Aerobic Respiration
- Microbial Anaerobic Respiration (Fermentation)
The sessions were moderated and coordinated by Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo, M.Si, a lecturer from the Department of Biology, Universitas Bengkulu. Through clear explanations and interactive discussions, Dr. Namrah guided participants in understanding how microbes generate energy in the presence and absence of oxygen knowledge that plays a crucial role in microbiology, biotechnology, and environmental science.
A Platform for Global Learning and Collaboration
This Lecturer Exchange is part of the department’s ongoing effort to internationalize the curriculum, broaden students’ scientific perspectives, and provide access to global expertise without geographical constraints. With participants comprising undergraduate students, faculty members, and young researchers, the program facilitated not only scientific enrichment but also cultural exchange.
Dr. Namrah expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with Indonesian institutions and encouraged students to remain curious and open to international learning opportunities. “Science knows no boundaries,” she stated, “and I’m happy to share and learn with you all.”
Engaging Discussions and Positive Impact
The participants actively engaged in discussions, asking thoughtful questions ranging from the role of electron transport chains in respiration to real-world applications of microbial fermentation in industries. Many students expressed that the session helped bridge the gap between textbook theories and real scientific research.
The program concluded with reflections from both the guest lecturer and class coordinator, emphasizing the importance of cross-border academic engagement in preparing students for future scientific challenges.
This event marks another step in Universitas Bengkulu’s commitment to becoming a globally connected academic institution. More Lecturer Exchange programs are planned in the future, aiming to bring diverse scientific voices into the classroom and foster a culture of international academic excellence.
