Visiting Professor Program at Biology Departement of FMIPA, University of Bengkulu (UNIB): Prof. Aris Tri Wahyudi, Ph.D. from IPB University

Bengkulu, 2 June 2025. The Program at Biology Departement of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Bengkulu University (UNIB) held a public lecture with the theme ‘Bioprospecting on Marine Bacteria’ on the 2nd Floor of the Meeting Room FMIPA UNIB. Prof. Aris Tri Wahyudi, Ph.D delivered material related to marine bioprospection, bioactive compounds of marine bacteria, bioprospection and extraction methods, applications and commercial potential of marine bacteria.

This public lecture is a series of visiting professor activities organised by the Department of Biology FMIPA UNIB. Dr. Sipriyadi, S.Si., M.Si. as the head of the Department as well as the moderator of this activity said that this activity was very interesting. Dr. Sipriyadi, S.Si., M.Si. hopes that this activity will be able to foster interest in marine bacterial research to Biology students. ‘The potential of marine bacteria in Bengkulu Province needs to be studied by scientists from Bengkulu, don’t let others explore our area first,’ he said.

The visit by Professor Aris Tri Wahyudi, Ph.D also included a scheduled undergraduate thesis defense for Hernawati Leoni Zahara. Prof. Aris Tri Wahyudi, Ph.D served as the assistant supervisor, with Dr. Sipriyadi, S.Si., M.Si. as the main supervisor, and Drs. Welly Darwis, M.S. and Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si as the undergraduate thesis defense examiner.

The series of visiting professor activity agendas consists of a field trip, namely introducing the natural of Kepahiang and Curup to Prof. Aris Tri Wahyudi, Ph.D. Then a visit to the Biology Department Laboratory, FMIPA UNIB, and ending with a Sharing Session related to bacterial bioprospection with students and lecturers of the Biology Department, FMIPA UNIB. This visiting professor activity is routinely carried out by the Biology Department, FMIPA UNIB every year. Dr. Sipriyadi, S.Si., M.Si., as the Head of the Biology Department, hopes that this activity will continue to be carried out and be able to increase cooperation with other universities.
