Official Farewell Ceremony for Retired Biology Lecturer Drs. Welly Darwis, MS.
The official farewell ceremony for the retired Biology lecturer, Drs. Welly Darwis, MS., was held by the Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, via a hybrid ceremony in the Dean’s Meeting Room of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu, and via Zoom. The ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Sal Prima Yudha, M.Si., and the Heads of Departments (KAJUR) from Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and several other fields within the Faculty.
This lecturer, who focuses on microbiology, has been dedicated to the University of Bengkulu since 1987, when the Faculty was newly established, having previously been part of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). The program began with an opening ceremony, singing the Indonesian national anthem, prayer, and remarks. The first address was delivered by the Head of the Biology Department, Dr. Sipriyadi, M.Si. He expressed his gratitude for his dedication as a Biology lecturer, a colleague, and especially as a parent, who always reminded and advised him, and maintained a firm stance in carrying out his duties and obligations. Similarly, Dra. RR Sri Astuti, MS., a colleague, shared her experiences as a friend. According to Ms. Sri, he was a firm yet humorous figure. He enjoyed making jokes that lightened the mood, and always focused on his ideals and goals. Furthermore, Mr. Welly was a devout worshipper, always reminding his colleagues when it was time for prayer.
In his speech, Mr. Welly advised that we all must always focus on our goals and treat all tasks as acts of worship. Bitter and sweet, joy and sorrow, will always go hand in hand, like a fork and spoon on a plate, clinking. Don’t focus on problems, but focus on solutions and the initial goal. Embrace differences as a form of diversity that adds color to life. With hardship, there will always be ease. Be wise in handling every problem and avoid mixing family issues with professionalism on campus.
The next event included the presentation of souvenirs from the Biology Department, student representatives, and alumni, as well as the screening of a compilation video for him. The event concluded with a group photo session and the enjoyment of the prepared food. Finally, enjoy your retirement, Mr. Welly. Your service and dedication will always be remembered.
