The University of Bengkulu Organizes Gemini AI Training for Lecturers

The University of Bengkulu organized a training session on the use of Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, to support lecturers in enhancing digital competencies and improving the quality of teaching and research. The activity was held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The activity was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor for Finance and General Affairs of the University of Bengkulu, Dr. Yulian Fauzi, S.Si., M.Si., and was attended by lecturers and education staff from various departments, including Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), University of Bengkulu.

The training aimed to introduce the potential of generative artificial intelligence in academic environments, particularly in supporting learning innovation, research productivity, and academic content development. As digital technologies continue to evolve, the integration of AI tools has become increasingly relevant for higher education institutions.

During the training session, participants were introduced to the basic concepts of generative AI and the features of Google Gemini that can assist lecturers in academic activities. The session covered several topics, including strategies for creating effective prompts, generating teaching materials, summarizing scientific literature, and supporting the preparation of academic documents.

The facilitators also demonstrated practical examples of how Gemini can be used to assist in developing lecture outlines, preparing presentation materials, drafting research ideas, and exploring scientific information more efficiently. Through these demonstrations, lecturers were encouraged to explore the potential of AI as a supportive tool for teaching and research.

In addition to the technical aspects, the training also emphasized the importance of responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in academic settings. Participants were reminded that AI-generated outputs should always be critically reviewed and verified to ensure accuracy and maintain academic integrity.

The training session was conducted interactively, allowing participants to engage in discussions, share experiences, and practice directly using Gemini in various academic scenarios. The lecturers showed great enthusiasm in exploring how AI technology can be integrated into their teaching and research activities. The training was ended with Google for Education certification exam of all participants.

Through this initiative, Department of Biology hopes to strengthen lecturers’ digital literacy and encourage the adoption of innovative technologies in higher education. The university remains committed to supporting the development of technology-enhanced learning environments that foster creativity, efficiency, and academic excellence.
