
Alumni Meeting of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu : Building Relationships, Building the Country Together with Alumni
Undergraduate Study Program , FMIPA, Bengkulu University, successfully held an inspiring and motivating Alumni Gathering event on November 30, 2024. This event was held excitingly and lively in the FMIPA Meeting Room, Bengkulu University and zoom meeting. This activity aims to strengthen the relationship between students, alumni, and institutions while providing participants with new insights into opportunities and challenges in the world of work.
Public Lecture : Building a Global Mindset
The event was opened with a public lecture entitled “Mindset and Mentality of Globally Competitive Biology Graduates” delivered by Maulana Isnarto, S.Si, a journalist and conservationist who is the first alumni of the Biology Study Program, FMIPA, Bengkulu University. This material provides guidance for biology graduates to build an adaptive and competitive mindset amidst global competition.
The speaker emphasized the importance of mastering soft skills and hard skills , such as communication, critical thinking skills, and technical skills that are in line with world work trends. Participants were also invited to utilize alumni networks as a source of information and career support.
Sharing Session: Inspiration from the Best Alumni
The next session was the Sharing Session which presented six alumni of the Biology Study Program, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu. The speakers shared their experiences and tips for success in pursuing careers in various fields:
Angga Martias , S.Si, M.Pd, Gr – Deputy Curriculum and Science Teacher of the Modern Islamic Boarding School of Darussalam Kepahiang
Angga emphasized the importance of the contribution of biology graduates in the world of education. “Biology is very relevant to educating the younger generation. Be an inspiring teacher and be able to utilize knowledge to educate the nation,” he said.
Operi Arnop , S.Si, M.Ling – Plt. Sub-Coordinator of Pollution and Environmental Damage of DLHK Bengkulu Province
Operi reminded the importance of building a strong network and motivation since becoming a student. “Expand your connections and stay motivated. Success often begins with the network we build,” he said.
Eka Nurdianty Anwar , S.Si, M.Pd. Si – General Manager of PT Bara Mega Quantum and PT. Kharisma Raflesia Utama
Eka shared her experience in working according to her interests. “Do what you love and finish it to the fullest. Sincerity in working will bring the best results,” she said.
Deri Yardiansyah – Director of PT. DOA Group
Deri inspired participants to always be serious in their work. “A small job done optimally can open up big opportunities in the future,” he said.
Liya Agustin Umar , S.Si, M.Biomed – Lecturer of FKIK Universitas Bengkulu
Liya encouraged participants to develop hobbies into valuable skills. “Be confident in your abilities. A hobby that is pursued can become a promising career,” she explained.
Robiansyah , S.Si – Head of Mining Engineering PT. Firman Ketaun
Robiansyah emphasized the importance of loyalty and communication in the workplace. “Organizational science provides many benefits, especially in training communication and teamwork,” he added.
Excitement and Enthusiasm of Participants
The Public Lecture and Alumni Sharing Session activities were moderated by Putri Lisya Anggraini, as a Lecturer in the Biology Undergraduate Study Program, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu. This event was attended by active students, alumni, and lecturers who were actively involved in the discussion. Participants gained many new insights on how to build a successful career.
One of the participants, Raul, a final year student, said, “This sharing session opened my eyes to the breadth of career opportunities for biology graduates. I am more confident in planning for the future.”
Building Synergy for the Future
Through this activity, the Biology Study Program, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu hopes to continue building synergy between students, alumni, and institutions. This is in accordance with the vision to create competent graduates who are ready to compete at the national and global levels.
Alumni Gathering activity will be a regular agenda to strengthen alumni networks and support student career development. “Together, we build a better future for biology alumni,” concluded the Chair of the Committee.
