Biology Laboratory (FMIPA UNIB): Improved with Advanced Tools for Genetics and Biomolecular Research (RT-PCR)
On Tuesday, July 01, 2024, the Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University received a number of advanced laboratory equipment that will support researches and practicums in the fields of biology and biotechnology. The tools received include a 15.000 rpm micro spin, Qiagen brand Real-Time PCR, electrophoresis equipment, and a safety cabinet. The procurement of these tools is funded through The Fund UNIB Revitalization, a strategic funding program that aims to support the development of academic facilities at Bengkulu University. The presence of these instrument is expected to support student and lecturer research, as well as improve the quality of research results in the field of molecular biology.
The arrival of these laboratory equipment was welcomed enthusiastically by the university, especially the students, lecturers and laboratory staff who will utilize the facilities. To ensure the optimal use of these tools, the equipment provider company conducted intensive training. This training includes operation, maintenance, and understanding the working principles of each tool, so that users have adequate competence in utilizing this advanced technology.
The micro spin with a high speed of 15,000 rpm will greatly assist in the process of efficiently separating biological samples, while Qiagen’s Real-Time PCR enables genetic analysis with high accuracy. The electrophoresis apparatus will support a wide range of molecular research, and the safety cabinet provides the necessary protection when working with hazardous samples. The combination of these tools is aimed to support the research and practicum activities of students in various study programs, especially those focusing on Genetics and Biotechnology.
The revitalization of this laboratory is in line with the vision of Bengkulu University to become a world-class higher education institution in the field of research and community service. With the support of increasingly sophisticated facilities, the University hopes to produce graduates who are competent and able to compete at the national and international levels. In addition, the availability of these tools also opens up opportunities for research collaboration with various parties, both at national and international levels.
