Department of Biology FMIPA UNIB has a Second Professor in the Field of Animal Biosystematics (Ornithology)

Monday, December 9, 2024 Bengkulu University inaugurated 5 professors. One of them comes from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He is Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si. who became the youngest Professor inaugurated that day. Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si just turned 49 years old last November. The scientific oration delivered by Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si was related to Strengthening the Taxonomic Status of Birds and Potential Prevention of Illegal Trade in Indonesia Using Genetic Data. The professor who was born in South Solok is known as an expert in the field of Animal Biosystematics (Ornithology).

The track record of Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si is fairly flashy. He has served as Dean of FMIPA UNIB from 2021 to 2024. One year earlier he held the position of Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs. From 2006 to 2024 Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si published 41 scientific articles in journals and presented scientific seminars (oral presentation) 26 times. Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si has also completed 2 books and 6 HKI in the last 10 years.

A happy look radiated from the face of Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si, he said that the struggle towards this professor was not easy, many things had to be sacrificed, especially his beloved family. The journey to complete education was not easy, Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si had to struggle for education costs and work as an oil palm plantation laborer at PT. Tidar Kerinci Agung. But now Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si has enjoyed the fruits of his hard work so far, namely becoming a Professor. 

Prof. Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si is the second professor in the Department of Biology FMIPA UNIB. He hopes that with the addition of this professor, it can help the Department of Biology become one of the best and global departments in 2025. The addition of professors in the Department of Biology is also a breath of fresh air for other lecturers to improve their capabilities in their respective fields of science so that hopefully there will be other professors in the following year.
