eDNA METHODS AND MOLECULAR ANALYSIS ON ANIMALS by Dr. Achmad Farajallah. M.Si (Department of Biology, FMIPA, IPB )

The development of the Biology Undergraduate Study Program is directed by the development of science and technology, the condition of regional natural resources and the needs of stakeholders that are dynamic over time . Due to these conditions and situations, the biology study program of FMIPA UNIB held a public lecture by presenting the best resource person, namely Dr. Ir. Achmad Farajallah, M.Sc. He is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Biology from the Division of Animal Physiology and Behavior, Department of Biology, FMIPA, IPB. Sharing knowledge related to ” eDNA Methods And Molecular Analysis On Animals “

This public lecture was held on Monday, October 9, 2023 in the meeting room. With the aim of improving the quality of Biology studies so as to enrich the ability of academics in developing their knowledge in society.

This public lecture explains about eDNA is a technique in detecting various living orgasms that leave traces of their DNA through body parts containing genetic material. It is known that now, many species habitats are lost and become a threat to their original species. And this makes it difficult to detect the existence of species. For that, an accurate technique is needed in detecting the presence of species in the ecosystem. And it is analyzed if the right technique is environmental DNA (e-DNA) for monitoring and conservation of biodiversity. By using this e-DNA approach, it can detect the presence of species according to the taxonomy of organisms and molecular markers that can detect up to rare and invasive species. So it can be concluded that the e-DNA technique is the most accurate technique for monitoring and conserving native, rare and even invasive species in various ecosystems.
