General Lecture “Exploration of Indigenous Microbial Diversity from the Skin of Native Indonesian Frog Species and Its Potential in Agriculture”
On Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Department of Biology, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu in collaboration with Biology, FST, UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a public lecture with the theme “Exploration of Indigenous Microbial Diversity from the Skin of Native Indonesian Frog Species and Its Potential in Agriculture”. This event aims to develop participants’ insights in understanding the diversity of microbes found in native Indonesian frog species and the potential of these microbes in supporting the agricultural sector.
This activity was held at the UNIB Integrated Service Building and was attended by the Dean of FMIPA, Dr. Jarulis, S.Si., M.Si, a Biology Lecturer and approximately 114 students of the Biology Department, FMIPA UNIB. The speaker for this activity was Lela Susilawati, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ph.D., a Lecturer in the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, who has expertise in research on microbes and their applications in various fields, including agriculture.
The main objective of this activity is to improve the quality of biological studies among academics, especially in research that focuses on the conservation and utilization of Indonesian microbial biodiversity. Participants gained new insights into how indigenous microbes from Indonesian frogs can potentially be used as biological agents in improving agricultural efficiency and sustainability. The event ended with a question and answer session presented by the speakers.
