General Lecture of Bachelor and Master Study Programmes of Biology Collaborated with Bachelor of Plant Protection invited professors from Cukurova University, Turkey and IPB University.

The general lecture of Bachelor and Master Study Programmes of Biology was collaborated with the Bachelor of Plant Protection. The general lecture was conducted on Friday, 18 November 2022, at the second floor Conference Room of FMIPA and live online through ZOOM and YouTube. The general lecture begins with opening remarks from the vice dean for academic affairs by Mr. Ashar Muda Lubis, Ph.D. and the lecture was moderated by Dr Risky Hadi Wibowo, S.Si. , M.Si.

For general lecture this time the biology department invited two professors as keynote speaker. The first keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Ir. Antonius Suwanto, M.Sc. from University of Bogor Agricultural Institute with the topic of Biotechnology for Sustainable Agriculture, the second keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bora Kaydan from Cukurova University, Turkey with the topic is an Importancy of Molecular Identification for Insect Diversity (Chase : Mealybugs (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Pseudococcidae)).

The first keynote speaker from the general lecture was Prof. Antonius Suwanto, who is a microbiologist with several field interests and one of those was plant and bacterial interaction. Some of his research was used for the development of probiotics and prebiotics in agriculture. From the lecture, Prof. Antonius Suwanto elucidates the important use of biotechnology for sustainable agriculture by utilizing the microbes that live in associated with the plant.

The second keynote speaker was Prof. M.B. Kaydan, who is an entomologist that specifically researches molecular identification of mealybugs. Hemiptera Coccomorpha is known to be the most diverse family of insects and contains many agricultural parasites. From the lecture, Prof. M.B. Kaydan described the phylogeny of mealybugs on Palaearctic taxa and improved the understanding of mealybugs molecular phylogeny and comparison with the morphological characters.
