Green Sawi Hydroponic Training at Qur’an Rayhan House, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City

Hydroponic training activities will be carried out from August to November 2022, at the Sakha Falih Cluster Housing, Bentiring Permai Village, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City. As many as 25 people consisting of female students and instructors at Rumah Qur’an Rayhan were the targets in the training activities.

This activity begins with building a hydroponic installation equipped with insect nets and a simple roof. After the installation is ready, the training begins with an explanation of the installation design. Furthermore, the training participants were directly trained to prepare containers containing hydroponic growing media. In this training, a container in the form of a glass container used for drinking mineral water is used for 2 purposes. The first goal is the utilization of waste for reuse to reduce environmental pollution. The second goal is to reduce the operational costs of hydroponic cultivation.

In the next stage, participants were trained to sow green mustard seeds on the media that had been prepared. These seeds can only be given water without nutrients for a week at most. Then the activity continued with training on making hydroponic nutrient solutions. For novice trainees, the nutrients used are in the form of ready-to-use nutrients that have been produced and have been tested in a biology laboratory by a team of trainers. The nutrient solution is put into the nutrient tank which is integrated with the hydroponic installation. The last stage is treatment until harvest. This treatment is very simple, just ensure that the nutrient solution is circulated every day for about 30 minutes every morning and pull out the weeds that sometimes grow on the media. Harvested mustard greens look good in size and color. This is proof of the success of the training activities so that participants can operate hydroponic installations to produce mustard plants.
