Community Service Activities by the Service Team of the Department of Biology, FMIPA UNIB with students, biology teachers and vice of headmaster for curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Argamakmur, North Bengkulu

Many efforts to improve the quality of education in Bengkulu province are still being pursued, especially improving the quality of Natural Education (IPA). This is highly believed because basic science is one of the sciences subject that will be the basis for the development of science and technology today. To improve the quality of education, it is necessary to make breakthrough efforts, both in curriculum development, learning innovation and even better educational facilities and infrastructure. Community service (PPM) FMIPA UNIB Development which was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at SMAN 1 Argamakmur, North Bengkulu was attended by 20 science students and 5 biology teachers and vice of headmaster for Curriculum. This community project activities chaired by Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo, M.Si, with the members are Dr. Sipriyadi, M.Si and Fatimatuzzahra, M.Sc from the Department of Biology, FMIPA, Bengkulu University is considered to be one of the solutions to problems that often exist in school laboratories, especially junior high and high schools.
Biology itself is one of the fields of science studies that studies living things, be it animals, protist plants and microbes. The purpose of learning biology in high school is to foster curiosity, motivation and interest of students as a school community through direct observation both in the laboratory and in the field. One of the activities that supports this is through practicum. However, practicum activities cannot be carried out optimally by teachers and students even though there are already equipment available such as microscopes, glass preparations, drip pipettes and so on. This is due to the unavailability of media for practicums such as preparations or specimens, this unavailability is because factory-made preparations are relatively more expensive and the type of speciate used for preparations is not necessarily known to students. Therefore, this problem can be solved by making your own fresh preparations of biology to improve the skills of teachers and students at SMAN 1 Argamakmur.

According to Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo, this community service activity was carried out aimed at answering the needs of Biology students and teachers in improving skills in the laboratory in synergy with subjects in the classroom. Training for teachers and students in making fresh biology preparations will later be used in the teaching and learning process (practicum) in the laboratory. In addition, increasing the role of the Department of Biology FMIPA Bengkulu University in transforming science and technology in North Bengkulu, especially at SMA N 1 Argamakmur.
