Community Service with the Theme ‘Pelatihan Visualisasi Data dan Infografis’ in Realizing ‘Desa Cakap Statistik’ (Cantik)
In the midst of technological and information advancements, data and statistics have become valuable assets in making informed decisions. The ability to collect, process, and communicate statistical data is a highly sought-after skill in society. Therefore, a community engagement team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Bengkulu, in collaboration with the Statistics Indonesia, Bengkulu City and the Statistics Indonesia, comprising lecturers Winalia Agwil, S.Si., M.Si., Dyah Setyo Rini, S.Si., M.Sc., and Dr. Idhia Sriliana, S.Si., M.Si., from the Statistics Program of FMIPA at the University of Bengkulu, Filo Supianti, M. Stat from Statistics Indonesia, Bengkulu City, Tommy Jomecho, M.E., and Hendarto, S.E. from Statistics Indonesia, Bengkulu, along with involved students such as Febry Widyan Adha, Avrillia Permata Hati, Uci Nopita Safitri, Cinta Rizki, and Ahmad Famuji, are organizing a community engagement activity titled “Data Visualization and Infographics Training.”
The aim of this training activity is to educate the community about the importance of data and statistics in village development, as well as to provide practical skills in processing data and creating engaging infographics. This is a crucial step in realizing a “Smart Statistical Village” (Desa Cakap Statistik), where high-quality data and a better understanding of statistical information serve as a strong foundation for making accurate decisions.
The community engagement carried out by FMIPA at the University of Bengkulu, involving both lecturers and participating students, will provide comprehensive training. This encompasses an introduction to relevant data types, effective data collection techniques, and how to analyze and interpret the data. Additionally, participants will be taught how to package data into easily understandable and appealing infographics for the general public.
The collaboration in community engagement involves lecturers, students, the Statistics Corner Agents, and representatives from the Statistics Indonesia. This collaboration is one of the key strengths of this project. With diverse experiences and knowledge, they can offer a comprehensive approach to providing training to the village community. Furthermore, they will work in partnership with local stakeholders to collect relevant data and understand the needs and challenges in data management within the village.
We believe that with a better understanding of data and statistics, along with the visualization skills taught through this training, the village community will become more actively involved in village planning and decision-making. This will allow the “Smart Statistical Village” to set an example in data management and evidence-based policymaking. With the dedicated participation of FMIPA’s community engagement team, including both lecturers and students, we hope that the “Smart Statistical Village” will not only be visually appealing but also intelligent in decision-making and sustainable development.
