Friday, November 15, 2024
A total of 50 students from the Statistics Program at Bengkulu University visited the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office of Bengkulu Province on Friday, November 15, 2024. The activity, titled Statistika Goes to BPS, aimed to introduce students to the working processes at BPS and to understand the critical role of statistics in supporting national policies.
The visit began at 8:00 AM with a welcome speech from the local BPS staff, who highlighted the importance of statistical data in creating evidence-based policies. During the speech, it was explained that BPS is not only responsible for collecting data but also for processing, analyzing, and presenting it to be utilized by various parties, including the government, academics, and the general public.
Students then attended a presentation on BPS’s data management system, covering methods of survey data collection to processing with modern technology. One of the highlights was the demonstration of data processing software used by BPS to ensure accuracy and speed in producing statistical reports.
The discussion session was one of the most interactive moments of the visit. Students asked various questions, such as challenges in maintaining data validity in remote areas and strategies employed by BPS to enhance public understanding and awareness of their roles and functions. In addition to the discussion, BPS also organized a quiz to test students’ understanding of the material presented earlier. The quiz not only served as a tool to measure comprehension but also created a more dynamic and enjoyable atmosphere during the activity.
The Statistika Goes to BPS event provided students with firsthand experience of the application of statistics in the real world and strengthened their understanding of the importance of data in decision-making. This visit is expected to inspire students to deepen their knowledge of statistics and contribute to Indonesia’s data-driven development.
