Guest Lecturer: Application of X-Ray Diffraction for Crystal Structure and Material Analysis at Universitas Bengkulu

Bengkulu, February 26, 2025 – The Undergraduate Chemistry Program, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Bengkulu, once again organized a Guest Lecturer session, this time featuring the theme “Application of X-Ray Diffraction for Crystal Structure and Material Analysis.” This event was conducted as part of the Synthesis and Elucidation of Inorganic Material Structures and Determination of Inorganic Compound Structures courses, intended for undergraduate chemistry students.

On this occasion, Universitas Bengkulu invited Dr. Maykel T.E. Manawan, S.Si., M.Si., a Senior Researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), to be the main speaker. He shared in-depth insights into the fundamental principles, applications, and data interpretation of X-ray diffraction (XRD) in crystal structure and material analysis.

This event aimed to provide students with practical knowledge of the XRD technique, which is widely used in material research. Additionally, students had the opportunity to discuss their research experiences and challenges in crystal structure analysis directly with Dr. Maykel. The Head of the Chemistry Department Universitas Bengkulu expressed appreciation for the presence of a practitioner from BRIN at this event. “We hope this collaboration will broaden students’ understanding of material characterization technology and enhance their competencies in chemistry research,” she stated.

Students participating in this event showed great enthusiasm in absorbing the material and engaging in discussions with the speaker. Through this session, it is expected that students will gain a deeper understanding of how X-ray diffraction is used in crystal structure and material analysis, as well as its applications in research and industry.

This Guest Lecturer activity is part of the commitment of the Chemistry Study Program at Universitas Bengkulu to provide practical, industry-relevant learning aligned with the latest developments in science and technology. [Vicka Andini]
