Semester Lesson Plan or Rencana Pembelajaran Semester (RPS) Development in the Undergraduate Chemistry Program University of Bengkulu: Enhancing the Quality of Chemistry Education

Lubuklinggau, November 6, 2024 – To improve the quality of education, Etriyanto Arman, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in the Undergraduate Chemistry Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu, completed the development of the RPS for the course on Standardization and Calibration. This activity was part of the 2024 Basic Training Program for Civil Servants.

The RPS aims to provide comprehensive guidance for students and lecturers in implementing Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The course on Standardization and Calibration, newly introduced into the curriculum for the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, required an RPS document to ensure that the learning process aligns with established standards.

The RPS development process involved several stages, including consultations with mentors and the Program Coordinator, discussions with course lecturers, public reviews, and final approval. After undergoing a comprehensive evaluation, the RPS document was officially approved by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Chemistry Program.

“This RPS document is a preliminary step to ensure structured learning quality that meets student needs. We hope this will positively impact the quality of Chemistry Program graduates,” said Dr. Dwita Oktiarni, S.Si., M.Si., Coordinator of the Undergraduate Chemistry Program, University of Bengkulu.

The approved RPS will soon be implemented in the learning process. Students will benefit from more directed learning, from planning to evaluation. Additionally, Etriyanto has developed learning evaluation instruments to ensure the achievement of learning outcomes aligns with the expected competencies.

“This activity not only enhances my skills as a new lecturer but also represents a tangible contribution to curriculum development oriented toward industrial and societal needs,” stated Etriyanto.

With the standardized RPS, the Undergraduate Chemistry Program at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu, demonstrates its commitment to improving education quality and producing competitive graduates in Southeast Asia. This program also supports the Chemistry Program’s vision to become a center of excellence in chemical education and research. [Vicka Andini]
