
Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Training at the Chemistry Laboratory University of Bengkulu: Enhancing Competence of Lecturers and Laboratory Staff
Bengkulu, September 2–3, 2024 – The Chemistry Department of the University of Bengkulu successfully conducted a training program on the use of the Scanning Electron Microscope, attended by lecturers and Laboratory Technicians from the Chemistry Department. The training aimed to enhance participants’ skills in operating and utilizing SEM as a critical instrument for research and teaching.
Rani Deliana Panggabean, an Application Specialist from PT Dynatech, delivered comprehensive material on SEM operation, covering sample preparation to data analysis. With extensive experience in SEM technology, Rani guided participants in understanding the working principles of SEM and its applications across various scientific research needs.
The training consisted of theoretical sessions and hands-on practice. The theory sessions included explanations of SEM working principles, sample processing techniques, and instrument parameter settings. During the practical sessions, participants had the opportunity to operate the SEM under the guidance of the Application Specialist. Rani highlighted the importance of mastering SEM technology in education and research.


The training was met with enthusiasm from lecturers and PLP attendees. Participants actively engaged in discussions and explored various instrument functionalities during the practical sessions. The involvement of PLP added significant value, given their critical role in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Yoravika Dwiwibangga, S.Si., M.Si., one of the participants, expressed her appreciation for the training. “This training is highly beneficial for improving our research skills. With SEM, research at Universitas Bengkulu can reach a higher level,” she said.
A similar sentiment was shared by one of the PLP participants, who stated, “This training provides essential knowledge for us to support laboratory-based research activities effectively.”
