X-Ray Diffraction Training for Chemistry Lecturers at University of Bengkulu: Enhancing Understanding in Crystal Structure and Material Analysis

Bengkulu, February 28, 2025 – The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Bengkulu, organized X-ray diffraction (XRD) Training for Crystal Structure and Material Analysis for chemistry lecturers from February 26-28, 2025. This training aimed to enhance lecturers’ understanding and skills in using XRD techniques for material characterization.

The training featured Dr. Maykel T.E. Manawan, S.Si., M.Si., a Senior Researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), as the main speaker. He provided comprehensive material on the fundamental principles, applications, and data analysis of XRD in material research.

This event consisted of theoretical and practical sessions, where participants had the opportunity to:
✔️ Understand the working principles of XRD in determining crystal structures.
✔️ Analyze XRD data and interpret diffraction patterns.
✔️ Discuss XRD applications in chemistry and material research.
✔️ Conduct hands-on practice using XRD instruments.

The Head of the Chemistry Department at the University of Bengkulu stated that this training is expected to enhance lecturers’ competencies in material characterization-based research. “With this training, we hope that lecturers will be better prepared to develop XRD-based research and improve the quality of teaching in material characterization,” she said.

Participants showed great enthusiasm, especially during the hands-on sessions, which allowed them to operate XRD instruments and gain a deeper understanding of data interpretation. This training also served as a productive academic discussion forum between participants and the speaker.

This activity is part of the Department of Chemistry’s efforts to continuously update lecturers’ knowledge and skills in material characterization, in line with the latest developments in science and technology. With this training, research at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences University of Bengkulu is expected to progress further and contribute to scientific advancements in material chemistry.
