INTRODUCTION TO GEOPHYSICS LABORATORY

The Geophysics Study Programme, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University organised an introduction to the Geophysical Laboratory for students of State Elementary School 86 Bengkulu City. The students came accompanied by their teachers with the aim of providing an early understanding of the methods used to determine the potential under the earth’s surface. This activity took place in one of the Practicum Rooms in the Physics Laboratory of FMIPA.

Some of the Geophysical field activities introduced were some Geophysical Measurement methods in the field. Measurements of physical parameters such as the earth’s magnetic field, seismic wave vibration, resistivity of the earth’s layers, and others. In addition, computer modelling to understand geophysical phenomena such as seismic wave propagation, magnetic anomaly distribution, and geoelectric anomalies were also shown.

In this activity, the things that attracted the most attention of the participants were groundwater exploration and earthquake focal mechanisms, as reflected in several questions asked by the students at the end of the activity. This activity ended with a visit to the lecture theatre, the Auditorium which is usually used for graduation and a group photo in the park and Inspiration Lake of Bengkulu University.
