Community Service by the Geophysics Lecturer Team, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu
The availability of drinking water is still a problem for some areas in Bengkulu. Pematang Balam Village, Hulu Palik Sub-district, North Bengkulu Regency is considering constructing a borehole well for the village’s drinking water needs. The potential availability of groundwater in the village has not been scientifically assessed. Likewise, where is the position if drilling is carried out. This community service activity by the Geophysics Lecturer Team, FMIPA, Bengkulu University aims to explain the situation and condition of the geological structure of the village, especially related to groundwater potential. This activity began with an explanation of the geological structure and continued with measuring the geoelectric method in the village.
The presentation and discussion activities with village community leaders were carried out at the Village Hall. Several main points discussed: Introduction to Groundwater Potential, namely an explanation of groundwater resources, distribution, and potential as well as information on the quality and quantity of groundwater. Utilization and Management of Groundwater on how to utilize groundwater for clean water needs for population consumption, and good groundwater exploration and exploitation techniques. Groundwater Conservation, groundwater conservation strategies, such as maintaining water catchment areas and avoiding pollution and recharging groundwater. The final section discusses Regulations and Policies. Socialization of regulations governing groundwater management, such as groundwater extraction permits and exploitation limits. Explanation of the roles of government, private sector, and community in groundwater management.
