EduFair at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu: A Platform for Higher Education Information for Students

On January 8-9, 2025, SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu hosted EduFair, an event featuring various top universities in Indonesia. This event aimed to provide students with information about higher education opportunities and was officially opened by Mr. Saidirman, SE., M.Si, Head of the Education and Culture Office of Bengkulu Province.

Several prestigious universities participated in this event, including Universitas Aisyiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), and Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB). The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB) also took part in the EduFair, presenting four leading study programs: Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB) was attended in person by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Sal Prima Yudha S, S.Si., M.Si., along with the Vice Deans, including Prof. Dr. Morina Adfa, S.Si., M.Si. (Vice Dean for Academic Affairs), Prof. Ahshar Muda Lubis, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs), and Prof. Dr. Arif Ismul Hadi, S.Si., M.Si. (Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Collaboration). Additionally, Dr. Mulia Astuti, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Mathematics Department, and Zulfia Memi Mayasari, Secretary of the Mathematics Department, were also present, along with faculty members from each participating study program.
This event was aimed at 12th-grade students from high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) across Bengkulu City who were preparing to continue their education at the university level. The participants showed great enthusiasm as they explored each university booth and engaged directly with university representatives to gain deeper insights into the study programs offered.
Also present at the event was Mrs. Siska Yosmar, S.Si., M.Sc., Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA UNIB. She provided an overview of the facilities available in the Mathematics program and highlighted the strengths of the Mathematics Bachelor’s Program at FMIPA UNIB.
Among the facilities offered is a computational laboratory equipped with a supercomputer, which is available at the Mathematics Laboratory of FMIPA UNIB. This computer can be used by students and faculty members for research involving complex computational programs.
This event was organized by the MGMP Guidance and Counseling Teachers of Bengkulu City, serving as a platform to provide students with a broader understanding of higher education options and to guide them in choosing a major that aligns with their interests and talents.
On this occasion, the Mathematics team demonstrated the application of cryptography courses in coding problems within a programming context. Cryptography is used to encrypt data to ensure its security during transmission or storage, as well as to verify user identity and data integrity. The team showcased how to solve coding problems using cryptographic theories.
Overall, the EduFair at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Bengkulu ran smoothly and successfully, providing great benefits for students preparing to pursue higher education. It is hoped that events like this will continue to be held as an essential platform for introducing the university experience to the younger generation in Bengkulu City.
