Partnership Visit of Lecturers of Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University
In July, 2024, several lecturers from the Bachelor of Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University held a partnership visit to various institutions in Jakarta. The delegation consisting of Mr. Rahmat Nursalim, S.Pd., M.Si, Dr. Jose Rizal, S.Si., M.Si and Mr. Nur Afandi, S.Si., M.Sc, visited the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Cybertend Data Academy and BFI. The main purpose of this visit was to discuss the potential for cooperation between these institutions and the S-1 Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University. The planned forms of cooperation include Teaching Practitioner and Internship programs for students. The Teaching Practitioner program aims to provide practical insights to students through the presence of practitioners in the classroom, while the internship program is designed to provide direct work experience in a professional environment.
During the visit to BNPB, discussions were held on opportunities for cooperation in disaster data analysis and the development of mathematical models for disaster mitigation. In this modern era, data analysis plays an important role in making quick and precise decisions, especially in the face of unexpected natural disasters. This program is expected to involve students in real projects that have a significant social impact.
Meanwhile, the visit to Cybertend discussed the utilization of cyber technology and big data in mathematics learning. These technologies are increasingly relevant in the digital age, where the ability to analyze large-scale data is becoming a highly sought-after skill. Collaboration with Cybertend will help students understand how mathematics can be applied in the rapidly evolving world of information technology.
Lastly, at BFI, the conversation is more directed towards the integration of mathematics with the financial industry. In the industrial world, mathematics has an important role, especially in risk analysis, portfolio management, and financial model development. This collaboration is expected to open up internship opportunities for students in the financial sector, so that they can learn firsthand how mathematical theories are used to solve real problems in the field.
This visit is expected to strengthen the relationship between the academic world and the professional world, so that students of the S1 Mathematics Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University can have wider access to practical-based learning. Thus, graduates from this study program are expected to be able to compete in an increasingly competitive job market. Not only that, this collaboration also opens up opportunities for lecturers to engage in applied research that is relevant to the needs of industry and society, making the university a center of innovation that actively contributes to nation building.
In addition, this visit reflects Bengkulu University’s commitment to establishing strategic relationships with various stakeholders. Through the synergy between the university and the industrial world, the S1-Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University hopes to create graduates who are superior, adaptive, and able to provide innovative solutions to future global challenges.
