WORKSHOP FOR SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Lecturers, as academics, have an obligation to fulfill the Tridharma of higher education, which includes the production of scientific articles. These articles are written works produced by lecturers, often in collaboration with colleagues and students, based on ongoing research. Additionally, publishing scientific articles is a requirement for applying for a lecturer’s promotion.

To support the productivity and quality of scientific work among lecturers in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), FMIPA collaborates with each department to organize workshops on scientific article writing. The Physics Department recently held a workshop titled “Exploring Physics Problems Around Us: Building Simple Research for Reputable Publications”. The workshop featured Prof. Dr. Mikrajuddin Abdullah from the Physics Department of the Bandung Institute of Technology, a nationally recognized lecturer (Outstanding Lecturer of 2011) and recipient of the 2018 Habibie Award. Prof. Mikrajuddin has extensive experience in producing reputable publications through research using simple, readily available equipment.

The workshop was held in a hybrid format, with an online Zoom meeting and an offline session in the multimedia room, on October 11, 2024. During the session, Prof. Mikrajuddin presented various examples of reputable articles based on research conducted with simple tools. He emphasized how everyday problems can be turned into high-quality research articles and how to develop research ideas without requiring large budgets. The event was attended by lecturers from the Physics Department, and the discussion session was particularly engaging, as evidenced by the lively exchange of ideas among participants.
