General Lecture: Occupational Health and Safety Competence for Quality and Competitiveness of Graduates of Physics Study Program

General lectures are routine activities held by the Physics Study Program, Department of Physics FMIPA, University of Bengkulu. At the inaugural general lecture in 2023, this activity was held on Friday, February 24, 2023. This public lecture was themed ” Occupational Health and Safety Competence for Quality and Competitiveness of Graduates” with Keynote Speaker Mr. Oktomi Wijaya S.K.M., M.Sc. from Occupational Health and Safety Study Center, the Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta. This activity was carried out online using Zoom video meetings.

In this general lecture, the speaker explained what occupational health and safety is, why occupational health and safety is so essential, and what fields of work most require occupational health and safety knowledge. The speaker also explained work accidents that often occur and how to anticipate work accidents. After explaining work accidents and how to expect them in detail, the resource person said about occupational health and safety competency training to obtain a certificate of competence.

At the end of the general lecture, participants were allowed to discuss occupational health and safety. One of the participants asked about the place of implementation and the cost of obtaining an OHS competency certificate. The general lecture activities went smoothly.
