The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Bengkulu University (UNIB) was ratified based on the decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number 195/O/1999 of August 10, 1999, concerning the establishment of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bengkulu University. Since its official creation in 1999, FMIPA UNIB welcomed its first students in 2001, opening four study programs at once (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics). In terms of quantity, equipment to support research is relatively readily available. All FMIPA study programs have won development grants in various programs, including UNIB due like, SP4 and PHK A-1, and finally in 2015, two FMIPA UNIB study programs were awarded grants BOPA grants to boost accreditation. Based on the results of the self-assessment, the study program organizes a development program to increase institutional capacity and quality of services. FMIPA is authorized to use the Basic Science Laboratory building to meet the space infrastructure needs of the laboratory (Biology Laboratory, Physics Laboratory, and Chemistry Laboratory) and GB III, GB IV, and Building V as infrastructure for the room math and biology lab. In addition to infrastructure development, improving the quality of processes and outcomes is an urgent concern of the academic community, considering that the current era of global competition demands that the world of education prioritize aspects of improving quality and competitiveness.

Since 2005, the direction of the development of higher education institutions, especially state universities, has been under the Vision and Mission Platform of the Ministry of Education and Culture (in 2005, the Ministry of National Education) with three strategic program pillars, namely expanding access, increasing competitiveness and governance. As part of the current development of the new educational order, the Ministry of Education and Culture has launched the Merdeka Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) program for universities (PT) in Indonesia. This MBKM program offers universities and students the opportunity and freedom to develop their potential through learning opportunities outside of the home study program and university. This opportunity is given for 3 semesters in various higher education and non-PT institutions such as government institutions, research institutes, industrial world, and others.
