Production of Ant Poison using Natural Ingredients in Household Scale for Households in Talang Pauh Village

There are several causes for many ants at home, both inside and outside our homes, especially in the kitchen, including: 1). Find a comfortable place in the house, for example in a gap behind a tiled floor or wall; 2). There is a smell of food, even though it is very far away; 3). Not only because of the food factor, ants also enter the house to look for water, for example there is accumulation of water, leaky faucets, dishes left in the sink, and drink containers that are not rinsed in the trash can also invite ants into the house.

Due to the presence of ants which function as pests, the food and drink situation in a household becomes uncomfortable and dirty. Floors, cupboards, kitchens and back of the house become swarms of ants, if left unchecked, these places become smelly and dirty due to food scraps brought here and there by ants. So due to the lack of knowledge of housewives in Talang Pauh Village to make ant poison from natural ingredients, this condition needs to be empowered for the people in Talang Pauh Village to make ant poison with natural ingredients, it is easy and cheap to obtain it, namely with toothpaste and dab soap. These two materials are considered very economical and natural, because they are not harmful if they are touched and smelled by children who are at home.

From the above problems, the Bengkulu University independent community service team provided a solution by utilizing toothpaste and dab soap as ingredients for making natural ant poison to eradicate ants which can be used on the walls of the house, in the dishwasher, behind the house and in the rice storage area. Bengkulu University Independent Service Team for 2023 consisting of Suhendra, S.Si., M.T., Dra. Rida Samdara, M.S. and Halauddin, S.Si, M.T. as head of service will provide additional knowledge and direct practice to target audiences to make and use toothpaste and dab soap as ingredients for making natural ant poison in the household environment by raising the theme of Bengkulu University independent service with the title “Making Ant Poison with Natural Home-Scale Ingredients Stairs for Housewives in Talang Pauh Village”.

Bengkulu University independent service activities were carried out in May 2023 in Talang Pauh Village. From the implementation of the activity it can be concluded that the use of toothpaste and dab soap was successfully used by the community to eradicate ants on the back wall of the house, in the dishwasher, on the back floor of the house and in the rice storage area. The use of this type of ant poison is not dangerous if it is smelled by children who are in the house because all the ingredients are natural.
