TECHNOLOGY FOR ANIMAL FEED FROM ODOT GRASS USING WET FERMENTATION METHOD FOR THE GANG RESAM CATTLE FARMER GROUP IN TALANG PAUH VILLAGE, PONDOK KELAPA, CENTRAL BENGKULU

To obtain forage feed, usually farmers in Indonesia obtain it from gardens, fields, rice fields, roadsides, rice fields, fields, forest edges and the rest of agricultural/plantation products still depend on forage from nature, so its availability is not continuous. As a result of the increasing population while the area of agricultural land remains, the availability of forage feeds is becoming increasingly limited. Another geographical factor that cannot be avoided is the rainy and dry seasons. During the rainy season, the amount of forage is very abundant, but during the dry season the amount of forage is very limited.

Fermentation is a way to change the substrate into a certain desired product using the help of microbes. These products are usually used as drinks or food. Fermentation of animal feed is an ammonia process, or in everyday language breeders usually call it the term fermentation. Usually this fermentation is usually made to feed ruminants such as cattle, buffalo and goats. The main purpose of farmers providing fermented feed is to maximize the preservation of the nutritional content available in forage foods or other animal feed ingredients, so that they can be stored for a long time, to be then given as feed for livestock. So it is clear that fermented feed for livestock can overcome the difficulties faced by farmers in obtaining forage feed during the dry season.

From the problems mentioned above, the Science and Technology Service Team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University will provide additional knowledge to master and make animal feed with a wet fermentation system with Odot grass material. The Science and Technology Service Team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University in 2022 consisting of Halauddin S.Si, M.T., Supiyati, S.Si, M.Si, and Drs. Syarifuddin, M.S., as the Head of Service, will make animal feed with a wet fermentation system by raising a theme Science and Technology Service, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University with the title Making Animal Feed From Odot Grass Using Wet Fermentation Method For The Gang Resam Cattle Farmer Group In Talang Pauh Village, Pondok Kelapa, Central Bengkulu”.

The activity has been carried out in September 2022. The target audience in this case is the Gang Resam Cattle Breeders Group which plays an active role in the Science and Technology Service activities of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University. They have gained additional knowledge to master and make animal feed with a wet fermentation system with Odot grass. With this fermented feed, farmers can store feed for a longer time, in addition, fermented feed has a higher nutritional value than ordinary grass without processing.
