The strength of the tsunami and the range of run-up inundation to the mainland are not only determined by the strength of the earthquake but also by the morphology of the shape of the coast. The area that is usually the worst hit by a tsunami is the area at the end of the bay, especially if it is the mouth of a river. The bay can be a trigger for amplification of the refraction of tsunami waves coming from the high seas, which after experiencing interference waves become stronger and higher, this makes residential areas on the coast of the bay especially at the end of the bay will experience an increased danger of tsunami wave seawater runoff. One of the areas that are threatened by the amplification of the tsunami waves is Sungai Serut Village, especially the area around the Serut river flow. This area has a height of 3 meters above sea level, and there is one elementary school located not far from the end of the Estuary Sungai Serut about 50 meters from the side of the river, namely SDIT Nurul Fikri. A sudden tsunami is estimated to be only 30 minutes long and possibly only 15 minutes from the time the earthquake occurred. In such a short time it is not possible to move the school community to run to high places which are on average far from where they live. Until now, efforts to realize independent disaster preparedness have stagnated. Awareness and alertness have not become part of the attitudes and behavior patterns of the school community, so that the potential for things that are advantages that exist in every place are not visible and are not realized as safe and easily accessible evacuation places. Preparation and good knowledge and understanding will be able to help the school community to take appropriate and timely actions, so as to minimize risks in the event of a disaster. As an action of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and a form of concern for the environment around the campus, Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University  through community service activities (PPM) of research-based the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences carried out a service activity entitled “The Hazard Mitigation of Tsunami Wave Amplification Due to the trap of Geometric Structure Bay of Sungai Serut for the School Community of SDIT Nurul Fikri, Bengkulu City”. This activity was carried out by a team of Physics lecturers, FMIPA UNIB, namely Drs. Suwarsono, MS and Supiyati, S.Si, M.Si, and assisted by Physics students. The full service activities can be seen in the following video here:
