UTILIZING THE YARD FOR CHILLI GROWING WITH A SPRINKLE SPRAYER MODEL FOR THE WELFARE DEVELOPMENT GROUP OF THE JASMATI FAMILY IN TALANG PAUH KELAPA VILLAGE, CENTRAL BENGKULU

The type of chili that is needed as a cooking spice is the type of red chili. Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a strategic agricultural crop for cultivation because the demand for chili is very large and many consumers consume chili as a complement to cooking spices. Chili which is used as a complement to cooking spices can be harvested when the chilies are still young green and ripe chilies are red. Young chilies usually have a shorter shelf life on the market due to improper packaging and storage conditions. Ripe chilies have a shelf life of 5 days at room temperature and if stored at 45°F (less than 10°C) they can last for 10 days.

From a direct survey by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences science and technology service team to Talang Pauh Village, data was obtained that some people had used their yards as a place to grow vegetables. It can be concluded that around 60% of the population grows chillies, while 20% of the population grows eggplants, while 20% of the population grows long beans. While about 80% of the watering system still uses a dipper and 20% has used Gembor.

Based on the interview results from the survey above, the FMIPA Science and Technology service team found 2 (two) problems faced by the Melati Family Welfare Development Group in Talang Pauh Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency, namely 1) Lack of knowledge and training regarding preparing planting media in polybags and 2) Don’t know how to install and use the rotary garden Sprinkler Sprayer watering device to maintain the stability of the watering system so that it is evenly distributed and the watering system is no longer conventional. Therefore, in the FMIPA science and technology service activities, the following will be carried out: (1) Utilizing the yard for planting chili using polybags; (2) Installing a rotary garden sprinkler sprayer technology to maintain the stability of the watering system so that it is evenly distributed and the watering system is no longer conventional.

From the results of the implementation of the 2023 Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences science and technology service activities, the 2023 Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Science and Technology dedication team consisted of Suhendra, S.Si, M.T., Drs. Suwarsono, M.S and Halauddin, S.Si, M.T. as the head of service has provided a solution for utilizing the yard for planting chili using polybags; as well as being able to install the Sprinkler Sprayer technology for the rotary garden model. This technology is aimed at partners, namely the Melati Family Welfare Development Group, Talang Pauh Village, Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu Regency.
