The Physics study program is one of the four study programs established at the beginning of the establishment of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University. This faculty was ratified based on the decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia number 195/O/1999 of August 10, 1999. The Physics study program was opened on the basis of a permit from the Director General of Higher Education number: 2293/D/T/2001 of July 4, 2001. Since then, it has been accepting students.

In its development, for the management of the study program, the study program is led by the coordinator of the physics study program. The physics study program carried out learning system and curriculum following Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI). In addition, this learning curriculum is updated at least every five years. For now, outcome-based education is applied, which adheres to the MBKM-based KKNI 2015 curriculum. Then, there are three areas of interest that students can choose to help complete their final project. The specific fields in the physics study program are Geophysics, Oceanography/Marine physics and Instrumentation. In supporting the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the physics study program is supported by human resources consisting Lecturers, Education Laboratory Institution (PLP), Administration staff. For facilities, the Physics Study Program already has complete and adequate infrastructure and outstanding quality for the learning process.

In the physics study program, students can follow various activities, whether managed by universities, study programs, or student associations. The activities that can be followed by student such as student mobility and exchange, internships, activities in research and community service activities of lecturer. In addition, students can also be active in community and student activities.
