
Biology Department, FMIPA UNIB strengthens collaboration with the Faculty of Biology UGM through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)
Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Bengkulu held a public lecture with the theme “Biodiversity Potential of Endemic Species in Supporting Food Security and Conservation”. The event was held on the 3th November 2023, at 08.30-11.30 am in the Integrated Services Building Hall (Gedung Layanan Terpadu UNIB) which was opened by the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation affairs, Prof. Dr. Irfan Gustian, S.Si., M.Si. The public lecture was delivered by awesome Keynote Speaker who was very experienced in conducting biodiversity research, Prof. Budi Setiadi Daryono, S.Si., M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D. (Dean of the UGM Biology faculty and Chairman of the Indonesian Biology Consortium (KOBI).
The event was scheduled by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dr. Jarulis, S.Si, M.Si. and Head of the Biology Department, Dr. Sipriadi, S. Si., M.Si. This was followed very enthusiastically by the participants. Participants who attended included undergraduate and master’s degree students in Biology, as well as students from other study programs within UNIB. Apart from that, it was also attended by invited guests and lecturers.
In this public lecture, Prof. Budi conveyed the importance of understanding, documenting, collecting and conserving the diversity and richness of biological resources and utilizing them sustainably through breeding, biotechnology, bioprospecting and bio-tourism. He also explained several studies on the conservation of agricultural genetic diversity in Indonesia, including cucumbers, bananas, melons, local chickens and several other superior varieties. These biodiversity conservation measures can also be duplicated in Bengkulu province.
In this public lecture activity, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)/ Perjanjian kerjasama (PKS) was also signed between FMIPA, UNIB and the Biology Faculty of UGM, which was signed by the dean of each faculty. This Collaboration Agreement aims to develop collaboration with the Biology faculty of UGM in terms of research, community service, student internships and other academic collaborations, as well as opening opportunities for collaboration with foreign universities.
