Students and lecturers of Biology department, FMIPA UNIB joined the 14th International of Indonesian Society for Microbiology (ISISM/PERMI) in Malang, 3-4th December 2024
Global trends show interest in sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, such as bioremediation and the use of microbial metabolites as biostimulants. Omics technologies and bioinformatics accelerate the identification of metabolites, enabling new applications in renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. In the context of industry and health, microbes and their metabolites are increasingly seen as potential sources for the production of high-value chemicals and other industrial raw materials. Innovations in fermentation and bioprocess techniques enable the production of metabolites with higher efficiency and lower costs. In addition, market demand for healthier and more natural products, such as functional foods and probiotics, is increasing.
Thus, the International of Indonesian Society for Microbiology (ISISM/PERMI) activities serve as a forum for conveying innovations from microbiologists worldwide, with keynote speakers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farhid Hemmatzadeh. DVM. PhD (University of Adelaide, Australia), Prof. Sehanat Prasongsuk, Ph.D from (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand), Ahmad Fathoni, M.Eng., Ph.D (BRIN, Indonesia), Prof. Madya Dr. Tan Geok Hun (University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia), Prof. Yutaka Nakashimada (Hiroshima University, Japan), and Ursela P. Gruce Bigol, PhD, DPAM (The Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), Philippines).
4 of biology master students: Gustina Dwi Wulandari, S.Si, Reza Wahyuni, S.Si, Nurul Aini S.Si, Livia Rayani Sinaga, S.Si and 2 of biology lecturers Safniyetti, S.Pd. M.Pd. (undergraduate biology lecture) and Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si. (coordinator) attended the 14th International Symposium of Indonesian Seminar Society for Microbiology (ISISM) 2024, located at the Ijen Suites Resort & Convention, Malang City started at 3rd-4th December 2024, this international symposium was hosted by University of Brawijaya (UB) and organized directly by the Indonesian Microbiology Association (PERMI).
This activity provides a lot of knowledge and greatly increases students’s academic capacity with the the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Microbial Metabolites: From Discovery to Innovation” which aims to be a platform for researchers and practitioners to share the latest knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and encourage sustainable innovation in the field of microbial metabolites.
