CATTLE DRINKING USING AN AUTOMATIC SYSTEM WITH THE VALPE CHOPPER MODEL IN THE GANG RESAM CATTLE FARMER GROUP IN TALANG PAUH VILLAGE, PONDOK KELAPA DISTRICT, CENTRAL BENGKULU

Cows are the dominant livestock when compared to other types of livestock that are kept by humans as a source of producing meat, milk, labor and other human needs. Cattle produce about 50% of the world’s meat needs, 95% of milk needs, and the skin produces about 85% of the leather needs for shoes. In 1957, the genetic quality of Madura cattle was improved by crossing them with Red Deen cattle. Another cross is between local cattle (Ongole hybrids) and Frisian Holstein dairy cattle in Grati in order to obtain a new type of dairy cow that is suitable for the climate and conditions in Indonesia.

In general, the success of a cattle business depends on three elements, namely seeds, feed, and management. Management includes the management of marriage, feeding, housing, and livestock health. However, from the three elements above, for micro-scale cattle breeders it is not yet macro, so feeding and drinking cows in pens is a determining factor for the success or failure of the cattle being reared. The availability of food and drink in the cage must be ad libitum, meaning that it must be available and must not run out at any time and must be provided continuously.

From the problems mentioned above, in order to facilitate the provision of drinking water for cows, the Science and Technology Service Team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu, provided a solution to install a cow drinking place with an automatic valve chopper system. With this tool, the availability of drinking water for cows is guaranteed for the continued growth of cows. The Science and Technology Service Team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University in 2022 consisting of Drs. Syarifuddin, M.S., Suhendra, S.Si., M.T. and Halauddin, S.Si, M.T. as the Head of Service, he will install a cow drinking place with an automatic valpe chopper system by raising a theme of Service Science and Technology, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Bengkulu with the title “Science and Technology for Cattle Drinking Using an Automatic System with the Valpe Chopper Model in Gang Resam Cattle Breeders Group in Talang Pauh Village. Pondok Kelapa District, Central Bengkulu.

The activity was carried out in September 2022. The target audience in this case is the Gang Resam Cattle Breeders Group which plays an active role in the science and technology service activities of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bengkulu University. They have gained additional knowledge to master and install a cow drinking cistern with an automatic valpe chopper system to ensure the availability of drinking water in the pen. The water source used is directly connected to a water tank (tandon) with a capacity of 750 liters.
