Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Hosts Inaugural General Lecture for Even Semester 2025-2026, Featuring Associate Professor Dr. Satyanarayan Shashtri from India’s Nalanda University
To commence academic activities for the Even Semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Bengkulu invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Satyanarayan Shashtri as the inaugural speaker for the FMIPA General Lecture on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Dr. Shashtri serves as the Dean of the School of Ecology and Environment Studies at Nalanda University. Attendance at this public lecture was mandatory for the 2025 cohort of FMIPA students. The event was moderated by Dr. Risky Hadi Wibowo and received full support from the Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dr. Sal Prima Yudha.
During the general lecture, which took place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Western Indonesia Time, Dr. Shashtri elaborated on RSGIS (Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System) and Geospatial Technology. This technology plays a crucial role in environmental monitoring, regional planning, disaster management, precision agriculture, and smart city development, serving as a foundational component for spatial data‑based decision‑making in the digital era. RSGIS and Geospatial Technology hold strategic importance in monitoring, analyzing, and mitigating earthquakes and tropical cyclones in Indonesia, given the country’s location within the Pacific Ring of Fire and tropical waters.
Students and faculty members who attended the lecture demonstrated high enthusiasm, engaging actively in a lively and spirited discussion. It is hoped that FMIPA students at the University of Bengkulu will not only learn through classroom instruction but also benefit from other academic activities, thereby enriching their academic competencies.
This general lecture forms part of the educational collaboration between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bengkulu and the School of Ecology and Environment Studies at Nalanda University. The preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions is currently under exploration and is expected to be signed in the near future, paving the way for further collaborative activities such as lecturer exchange and joint publications.
